Finished the Scarf!

I just finished my first scarf!

Is it everything that I hoped that it would be? No..

But I am proud of myself and I will be wearing it this December! It is the coziest thing that I now own ❤

Next time I think that I will only create 10-15 stitches for the length, as my scarf looks a tad like a blanket, but hey I’m cool with it. Blanket Scarf = a cozy, warm, happy Michelle.

If I do end up making another scarf over winter break I’ll upload it online so that you can see my knitting progress. Thanks for coming on this journey with me! Have a fabulous December 🙂

One Yarn Ball Left

I attached my last ball of yarn last night. Unfortunately, I did this at 11 pm when I was tired and ended up tying it to the wrong end! After a slight panic attack I was able to fix it and now you can’t even tell. Fingers crossed that I tied everything properly and it doesn’t unravel as soon as I put it on.

The next time I make a scarf I think that I will buy four balls of yarn. I bought three and I like my scarfs extra long so it just isn’t cutting it for me yet. I have hope that I’ll be able to finish knitting with my last ball of yarn by December 5th. If so, I will upload a photo of me wearing it! Stay tuned for the final product.

Weekly Progress:

Half a Scarf

This week I tried to do as much knitting as I could as there is only 12 days left of class before winter break! I was able to finish my first ball of yarn and attach a second to continue the scarf. I’m hoping that I can finish all three yarn balls in the next 12 days. If not, I can always make my scarf into an infinity scarf – but I do prefer the regular ones.

Below is my progress:

The daily knitting begins…

Ttyl for now.

Scarf Progress Continued

Hello folks!

Surprisingly, in the past ten days I have done a ton of knitting. I have finally found knitting to be extremely relaxing. It’s amazing to just turn on Netflix and be able to knit so easily without worrying about missing any stitches. With that being said, although I have completed some good progress on my scarf I still have A-LOT to do. With only a few weeks left (17 days to be exact) I am going to be cutting it close. Knitting is extremely time consuming! To finish this scarf I think that I’m going to have to do at-least thirty minutes of knitting a day. So.. wish me luck.

Here’s my weekly progress:

Im slightly worried that I may not have bought enough yarn. Because I wanted my scarf to be extra thick I created 20 stitches instead of the ‘normal’ 15. That may be why Im running out of yarn so fast & why its taking so long to make. The more you know..

Scarf Progress

Tonight I decided to work on my scarf while I was at the laundromat. Knitting is fantastic  because you can literally do it anywhere.

As you can see in picture #1 I may have messed up a stitch. But live and let live as they say? Im sure that I can fold the scarf in a way to hide most of its flaws anyway. For the next month I will be continueing to knit my scarf until its done! As you can see, I still have quite a ways to go but Im getting there.

Beginning my Scarf

Today I finally began to knit my scarf with my new expensive yarn. Thankfully, nothing wrong has happened yet! The creation of my scarf couldn’t come at a more perfect time as its beginning to get colder in Victoria.

Here is my beginning progress! Hopefully my scarf will be completed by December 5th. Stick around if you want to see my weekly progress.

Knitting is Expensive Y’all

So,

Yesterday I decided that I was ready to start knitting my scarf. I got into my car, drove down to Fabricland, and found six balls of yarn that I loved. Of course I did all of this without looking at the prices and discovered that I had purchased 80$ worth of yarn! Crazy right?

With this in mind, I am now extremely worried about my scarf. It better be beautiful since its literally costing me a small fortune to make. I’m tempted to do another week of practice before using my beautiful yarn, just to make sure that I don’t mess it up.

It’s literally cheaper to buy a scarf than to make one from scratch, how is this possible?

This week I will be trying to work up the courage to start knitting with my yarn… Wish me luck!

Purl Accomplished

I have finally learned how to purl! (You have no idea how excited I am) I can now start knitting my own scarf. Specifically, this upcoming Thursday I will buy my wool and update you further.
Yesterday + Today consisted of purl practice. Thankfully a friend of mine was able to give me some good tips so I now have the purl technique down pat.
What I accomplished over the past two days:

Here is a tutorial of the purl stitch that I created:

I will post again once I have my wool picked out! I should probably keep practicing until then though. Ttyl.

Knitting Inspiration

To relax after my four hour knitting session I decided to try to find some inspiration for the scarf that I will be knitting in the near future. To do so I created a Pinterest account and then my own board! I will be adding to it in the next week.

I downloaded Screencastify and have uploaded a video of my board so that you can see for yourself.

Enjoy!

Purl Stitch

This week I have been working on the purl stitch. Unfortunately, it has been driving me crazy! Once again it has taken me four hours to complete a short beginners videos… I know that I will improve the more I practice but continually knitting for four hours straight can make your eyes + mind extremely tired!

On the plus side, I have completely nailed the long tail casting method of stitching (also called the knit stitch). I can do this stitch extremely quickly now. This is a good reminder that with more practice this upcoming week I will eventually be able to nail the purl stitch.

Here is some progress from today’s session: The first two photos are the knit stitch while the last is the purl stitch. Hopefully next week I will be able to upload a better photo of what a purl stitch looks like!

I hope to become an expert at the purl stitch by November 1st so that I can start my scarf. I have a feeling that it will take at-least a month to make.

—– I will be studying with a friend tomorrow night who has a knitting background so with some slight begging I may be able to get some good tips on the purl stitch *fingers crossed*

On a side note: Make sure that your cat is out of the room when you proceed to start knitting. It was a struggle to get the yarn away from him. But can I blame the guy?
